    Long ago, in a land of tall mountains and wide valleys, lived a strong tribe called Thamūd. They carved houses in rocks and built fine palaces.

    But they forgot Allāh, the One who gave them everything. Instead, they prayed to stone idols that could not hear, see, or help.

    Among them was a noble man named Ṣāliḥ (`alayhis-salām). He was honest, gentle, and wise. Allāh chose him to be their Prophet.
