    Safiyyah and the Ramadan Moon

A beautiful Ramadan story for kids about spotting the new moon, learning sabr, and entering the blessed month with excitement and good deeds.

    The sun slipped away,

and the sky softened from orange to gentle purple.

Amir and his little sister, Safiyyah, stood on the balcony.

“Is it time to look for the new moon?” Safiyyah whispered.

    “Almost,” Amir said.

“We have to watch carefully. It might appear any moment.”

    Safiyyah rose on her tiptoes.

“Why do we look for the moon?”

    Amir smiled.

“The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to begin fasting when we see it.

He would look for the new moon himself.”

    He pointed at the sky.

“So when we see it, Ramadan begins — just like he taught.”

Ummi joined them on the balcony.

“Allah made the moon a sign for us,” she said softly.

“When it appears, we know the new month has started.”

    Safiyyah’s face brightened.

“I want to see that sign,” she whispered.

Watercolor illustration with medium outlines of a modest modern balcony at sunset, sky shifting from bright orange to soft purple. Two Muslim siblings (boy and younger girl, modest clothing, no detailed facial features) stand at the railing, looking up with quiet excitement. Warm light on the buildings below, hints of city rooftops in the distance, soft breeze suggested in the girl’s scarf. Atmosphere calm, anticipatory, and full of wonder, no depiction of any prophets.
